    • In the U.S. Army, Riggers are responsible for packing, maintaining, and inspecting parachutes, cargo, and aerial delivery systems, just like their Navy counterparts. However, Army Riggers typically work with a broader range of aerial delivery systems, supporting a variety of units including airborne, special operations, and combat teams.

      The Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) for Riggers is:

      92R – Parachute Rigger

      Key Responsibilities of an Army Parachute Rigger:

    • Packing and Inspecting Parachutes: Ensuring that all parachutes, including those for personnel and cargo, are packed correctly and meet rigorous safety standards.
    • Maintaining and Repairing Equipment: Ensuring that parachutes, harnesses, and other air-delivery equipment are in top condition and can be relied upon for safe use.
    • Preparing Aerial Delivery Systems: Army Riggers prepare and test various types of air-drop systems, including those used for personnel, cargo, and equipment drops.
    • Conducting Aerial Drops: They may be involved in assisting with or overseeing the actual airborne operations where parachutes and cargo are deployed from aircraft.
    • Training and Supervision: Riggers may also train other military personnel on the proper use and handling of parachute equipment and procedures for safe deployment.

    • Types of Equipment and Systems Used:

    • Personnel Parachutes: For soldiers to safely land from high altitudes or in combat zones.
    • Cargo Aerial Delivery Systems (CADS): For the safe airdrop of supplies and equipment, including vehicles, food, and weapons.

    • Training for 92R – Parachute Rigger:

    • Initial Entry Training: New recruits must complete Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT).
    • Parachute Rigger School: After completing BCT, soldiers attend the U.S. Army Quartermaster School at Fort Lee, Virginia for Parachute Rigger School, where they undergo specialized training in packing, inspecting, and maintaining parachutes and aerial delivery systems.

    • Career Path:

      After becoming qualified as a 92R, soldiers may be assigned to airborne units, special forces, or logistics support units. They may also advance to positions of leadership within the Army's Parachute Rigger community. This could include roles such as Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in charge of rigging operations or training future riggers.

      Army Riggers play a critical role in ensuring the safety and success of airborne and airdrop operations, contributing to the Army’s capability to deploy quickly and efficiently in combat and humanitarian missions.

    • Specialized Parachutes: For specific mission types like high-altitude, low-opening (HALO) or high-altitude, high-opening (HAHO) operations.
